lower when harry reid took to the floor of the u.s. senate and accused governor romney of not paying taxes for ten years. last week, nancy pelosi implied that there was no security at the embassy in libya was because the republicans had employed cuts in that area. they understand the economy is not helpful to them. i would remind the governor that the republican congress has spent many, many job creating bills to the democratically controlled senate and harry reid has refused to let them get to voted on. >> governor romney, the consensus is he came out ahead in the debates. do you think he's going to be able to sustain that momentum? has he energized the base? >> he's clearly energized the base. i was just in denver speaking to a conservative group there. i've been doing some women for romney events. people are clearly very fired up. what they saw was a fantastic debate performance by governor romney. what they also saw was a contrast between someone and governor romney who understand the fooacts and could relate th to every day people's lives. president obama, it wasn't just that hi

be an interesting tactical question for romney does he have to sit down with harry reid or sit down with joe manchin and mark warner and eight others and the same for president obama. i think the republicans are underestimating how strong obama will be if he is reelected and i do not believe that john boehner can hold if he has a margin in the house i don't think that he can hold off the republicans against dan obama version of the deal. the believes are stronger than the used to be. i think that we have more leverage over members in the campaign finance issues and other things but i think obama going to the lamar alexander in the senate and there are some equivalence in the house, even if the democrats don't control both houses of congress he would have some leverage to go round the leadership and i suspect he wouldn't mind. he would feel that he is obliged to deal with him in 2013 if romney has lost but people see bipartisanship when it's a leadership negotiation and the other is picking off against the wishes of leadership but the premise on both of those is the rest of the personal relationship

the senate, and harry reid says this all the time. so latinos have already been decisive. they could be more decisive. you showed the numbers. if they came out to vote in more numbers. but essentially they will be a very critical part of deciding who the next president will be. and republicans have said that this next candidate, mitt romney, cannot win the white house if he can't get at least 40% of the latino vote. he's nowhere near that right now, randi, so this should be a big problem for republicans. >> amy, latinos say that the democrats have done a much better job in terms of reaching out to latinos and minority voters. what, if anything, do republicans need to do to turn around that perception? is it too late? >> well, interestingly, during the conventions, president obama, he outspent mitt romney 7-1, but the spending that mitt romney did do during his convention was mostly in hispanic media. so you see the romney campaign is very aggressively trying to court and reach out to hispanic voters. but let me get to this 40% number that maria threw out there. in fact, george bush did win i
